Chebsaurus was formally named in 2005 by F. Mahammed and colleagues. The name means “young man.”
It lived in the Middle Jurassic · Late Jurassic (Callovian · Oxfordian · Kimmeridgian), roughly 165.3 to 149.2 million years ago. Finds come from DZ, including the Aïssa Formation. It was a herbivore and walked on four legs.
Published estimates put Chebsaurus at a length near 8–9 m, hips about 2 m high, and a body mass around 1.5 tonnes.
