The story in short

The genus Alioramus dates to 1976, the year S. M. Kurzanov described it. The name means “different branch.”

It lived in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian), roughly 72.2 to 66 million years ago. Finds come from Mongolia, including the Nemegt Formation. It was a carnivore and walked on two legs.

Published estimates put Alioramus at a length near 5–6 m and a body mass around 385–700 kg.

On the family tree it sits in Tyrannosaurinae, among the theropod dinosaurs.

This entry is the whole genus. The type species is Alioramus remotus. Other named species include Alioramus altai.
